DAY 1: ARRIVAL AND EXPLORING THE HIGHLANDS OF SANTA CRUZ
Welcome to the Galápagos Islands! Upon arrival at Baltra airport, you will be greeted by our experienced guides. Your adventure begins with a transfer to Santa Cruz, where you will settle into your comfortable hotel and have lunch.
The afternoon will be spent exploring the higher altitudes of the island. The ranch is located 40 minutes from Puerto Ayora and is a protected nature reserve. Here you will have the opportunity to visit coffee plantations and observe various species such as the Galapagos owl and giant tortoise in their natural habitat. Enjoy the stunning scenery and endemic flora and fauna as you hike through the impressive nature reserves. You can also explore the impressive 400 metre long “lava tunnel”. Return to the hotel for dinner.
Day 2: Playa Tortuga Bay and Charles-Darwin-Station
After breakfast we will start our first excursion to Playa Tortuga Bay, a beautiful beach located 2.5 km from Avenida Baltra. The beach is divided into two bays: Playa Brava and Playa Mansa. It has this name because it is an important nesting site for sea turtles. On the way there you will see a variety of vegetation from the transitional zone, the dry zone and the coastal zone. You will also be able to see numerous finches and lava lizards. Continuing along the path you will come to a lagoon where you can see more marine iguanas resting and sunbathing on the sand.
In the afternoon, we will visit the Charles Darwin Research Station, where you can see giant tortoises at different stages of their lives, from a few years old to adulthood. You will also learn about the islands, their volcanic formations and climate. These and many other interesting facts can be found in the new information centre. After the tour you will have the opportunity to visit the station’s beach where you can relax and snorkel. You can expect to see a variety of tropical fish. We then return to the hotel for dinner.
Day 3: Playa de los Alemanes and Grietas
After breakfast we set off for Playa de los Alemanes and the Grietas, a place known for its impressive volcanic formations. Here, seawater and rainwater meet to create a healthy, salty ecosystem, ideal for the development of fish larvae, such as the parrotfish. These larvae find shelter in the natural pools and grow to adulthood.
The crystal clear waters, combined with the bright sun, create a dreamlike landscape that looks like something out of a fairy tale. These natural pools are surrounded by the fascinating biodiversity that the Galapagos Islands have to offer. Before reaching the Grietas, we will visit the salt mines and Playa de los Alemanes, where you will have the opportunity to enjoy a refreshing drink and relax.
day 4: Isabela and Tintoreras
Once on Isabela, we board a small boat for the 10-minute trip to Islote Tintoreras. Once there, we follow a trail that takes us through stunning scenery. On the way we have a chance to see marine iguanas. Depending on the time of year, we may even be lucky enough to see them building their nests. It is important that we stay on the marked trail so as not to disturb the wildlife.
We continue on our way to a small viewpoint where we can see groups of Tintoreras (white tip sharks) resting in the shallow water to regulate their body temperature.
A special highlight of the day is snorkelling in these waters, where we can swim with sea turtles, blue sharks and a variety of colourful tropical fish. After an unforgettable day we return to Santa Cruz.
day 5: Departure
After a last breakfast in this paradise, it is time to say goodbye to the Galapagos Islands. Your return transfer to Baltra airport completes this unforgettable trip.
