Have you ever heard of Cuyabeno Lodge? You may even have spent the night in its welcoming wooden huts and floated in its colourful hammocks. But have you ever wondered how this unique lodge came to be? What dreams and visions did the founders have to create a place that is not only comfortable, but also in harmony with nature?

Cuyabeno Lodge, which opened its doors in 1989, is proud to be the first ecological lodge in the Cuyabeno Reserve. But what does it really mean to be eco-friendly? For us, it’s about living in harmony with nature and minimising human impact on the rainforest. We use biodegradable products, including gentle shampoos and soaps, and our huts are covered with palm leaves – materials that are not only sustainable, but also traditional. Our energy comes from solar panels, further minimising our carbon footprint.

The rainforest, a precious and fragile ecosystem, is facing great challenges today: Climate change, invasive oil companies and general human impact are threatening its existence. That is why we are doing everything we can to protect this unique part of our planet. A central concern of Cuyabeno Lodge is to prevent oil exploration in the reserve, which has already taken place in the immediate vicinity of the protected national park.

When the lodge was founded, there were only a few cabins without private bathrooms. Instead, guests used large communal bathrooms, which still exist today. The huts were inspired by the traditional dwellings of the indigenous people and were built using the same eco-friendly materials to protect the environment and ensure the longevity of the accommodation. Over the years we have modernised the cabins and added new ones. Today we offer a variety of cabins with en-suite bathrooms, a spacious dining room and a lookout tower that houses our superior rooms.

Sustainable tourism and rainforest conservation are the cornerstones on which Cuyabeno Lodge was founded and which continue to guide our actions today. In recent years, we have worked hard to improve and renovate the lodge to provide you with an unforgettable home away from home.
