Last month we had a special visit at Cuyabeno Lodge. Two groups of about 23 and 18 dentist of Denmark spent 4 days at the beautiful reserve.
They participated the usual 4 days/3 nights program only as difference that they had additional workshops at the Lodge all day. This took place at the dining room where it has the availability to offer a screen for presenting PowerPoint presentation.
However, the absolute highlight was the visit of a community. The dentist went by canoe to visit them who are living independently in the jungle. They have their own school building with one teacher, a sports field where the kids playing soccer and a mayor which handle all the organization stuff.
The dentist want to show the children and also the parents how to brush their teeth right. They brought enough toothbrushes and toothpastes for all the children. Besides a model of a human mouth to demonstrate the correct form of cleaning their teeth.
After the theoretical explanation followed the practise. They spread the toothbrushes and –pastes to the children and parents and invited them to brush their teeth and to practice it together with the experts.
It was a lot of fun for the children and also the parents, they showed a lot of interest. After the how-to-brush-my-teeth-lesson they had many questions, like how often they have to brush their teeth, how long last a toothbrush o what kind of food is unhealthy for the teeth of the children. It turned out that some of the infant do not had a toothbrush before. Finally it was a big success for all participant.
The dentist told us later that the visit was a really special day for them and they are glad to have received this opportunity to help.
